day 10- songs you listen to when you are happy, sad, bored, hyped, mad

Hmmm....Songs I listen to...It depends on what is on the radio at the time.  But if I'm sad and a depressing song comes on, I change the station.  I mostly love upbeat songs like: Pocket Full of Sunshine, I like John Denver songs whenever.  I like songs like Jump for my Love or Celebrate Good Times by the Pointer Sisters when I'm cleaning.  It keeps me moving!

Day 9: Something I'm Proud of in the last Few Days

This kid!  I'm proud of him.  Kaiden turned 12 on Monday and when I think back over the past almost five years, I'm amazed and yes, proud of how far Kaiden has come!  The other day he was forced to defend his beliefs to some of his best friends.  They were saying that God didn't really create the earth.  It was formed and everything on it formed from a giant earthquake.  Kaiden was seriously disturbed by this.  He just couldn't figure out how they could think that.  He didn't think it made any sense that every single flower, tree, animal and people were created out of the blue with no thought or creativity.  His friends refused to believe him, but he stood his ground.  Later when he recounted the incident to me, I took the opportunity to teach him that everyone has a right to their own opinion and that it doesn't make them bad people, just people with different thoughts. I also told him that it means he can have his own beliefs as well and that his friends should respect that too!  He's growing up, this young one of mine...

Day 3: A Picture of Me and My Friends

Wow, this one was hard!  I started thinking about my friends and the people I associate with and care for most.  I have a lot of friends.  I'm friendly.  I love people.  I have co-worker friends, church friends, neighbor friends etc...But there are a few women in my life that I know will ALWAYS be my dear friends no matter how far we live from one another or how much time passes between visits. When I narrow it down, I can claim four women whom have affected my life in such a positive yet all so different ways. CaroLee, Sabey, Janet and Clarissa.  So then, I attempted to find pictures of myself with these friends...easier said than done!  I found that I am in very few pictures probably because I'm always the one taking them.  However, I did find one in my computer archives   Sabey.

What can I say about Sabe?  We met about 18 years ago when she moved with her young family into our ward in Ogden.  I knew the minute we met we were destined to be friends.  Sometimes you just know...
Things I love about Sabey...her laugh, spirituality, sense of adventure, wisdom, holiday decorating skills, her "down to earthedness" (I know that's not really a word), her sense of everything fun, in fact, she makes everything fun, even hard stuff.
Things I've learned from Sabey...to hang in there when things are tough, to give your kids "the boot" when they turn 18, that education is a most important thing, to make kids be your slaves (your own of course) in other words, the value of teaching children to work, that animals are people too, that aging parents are hard, but that you can survive it, that we love our kids no matter what they do or what their choices are, that being close to your children is fun and sooo important.
Although we haven't lived near each other for a few years, we never have a hard time reconnecting and we could spend hours together at her cabin staining the deck and yakking till the cows come home.  We never run out of things to talk about.  I'm so grateful for Sabey as a friend.  I believe we'll be friends forever!  Love ya Sabe
P.S.  Wow, all of this reminiscing makes me want to write a post about the other three wonderful friends in my life.  hmmmmm, gotta find some pics!!! Love you all ladies!!

Day 2: The Meaning of my Blog Name!

This story is one of those family legend stories that we all have.  It comes up quite often and I love it!  It all started back in about 2004.  Erin , Holli and I took a little trip back east to look at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, VA.  Holli was interested in going to school there and we wanted to check it out first.  We decided to fly into Philadelphia because the airfare was significantly less expensive plus our friends the Nielsen's lived there at the time and we wanted to spend some time with them.  We had a great time in Philly!  The Nielsen's were great hosts, taking us around to see all of the sights that up until that point I had only seen in the movie National Treasure!  A little background about the Nielsen's, we had lived in the same ward years before and Holli and their son Andrew were born just 10 days apart in 1987.  Sometimes you make friends that no matter how far apart you are, you can just pick right back up where you left off...this is how it is with us and the Nielsen's.  Janet and Keith have three children which I like to call the "miracle children" as Janet and Keith were told they would not be able to have children.  Well, Andrew, Lindsey and Kaiden would be proof that the Drs. were wrong !  Kaiden is  quite a bit younger than the other two kids so he didn't know us as well.  They had been living in PA for a couple of years at that point.
On our trip, Kaiden was simply smitten with Erin and Holli!  He had to sit by them on the train, hold both of their hands as we walked around the city and sit by them at lunch!  It was soo darn cute.
That night while Janet was putting Kaiden to bed, he told his mom: "I love Dobby's sisters".  We laughed so hard when she told us.  So from then until now, some people (usually Holli's friends) call me Momma Dobby.  Hence, the title of my blog "Dobby's Delights".  Now isn't that a simply sweet story?!
